A few days before the procedure, have the following blood tests performed: complete blood count (CBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). If the results are within normal ranges, simply bring them with you. If any values fall below or exceed the normal limits, please contact our assistants by phone or email.
There is no need to shave the intergluteal cleft before the procedure. The doctor will remove hair from the surgical area using a specialized surgical clipper, which helps prevent wound infections and ingrown hairs. Shaving is also not recommended during recovery.
Since the procedure is not performed under general anesthesia, you do not need to fast. Regardless of whether your procedure is scheduled in the morning, afternoon, or evening, eat a substantial meal beforehand. Low blood sugar levels could cause you to feel faint.
During the procedure, you will be provided with disposable shorts. After the procedure and during the healing process, choose loose-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement, is not tight around the buttocks, and feels comfortable. Avoid tight jeans and leggings made of synthetic materials.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, allowing patients to leave the facility immediately afterward. The entire process takes a maximum of 3 hours.
After a pilonidal cyst removal procedure, patients can safely return home the same day, regardless of the chosen mode of transportation. Travel by car, train, or plane is possible, provided the patient feels well enough.
For several hours after the procedure, the anesthesia continues to provide effective pain relief and comfort. For most patients, any discomfort is minimal and resolves on its own within 2-3 days. In some cases, particularly for those with higher sensitivity or after more extensive procedures, mild pain may persist slightly longer but is typically temporary.
